ARC Liberia

Head Office: Monrovia

Where ARC Works in Liberia: Fish Town, River Gee County

People We Serve: Liberian communities

In order to stop the spread of the Ebola virus in West Africa, the U.S. government mounted a robust response to establish an Ebola treatment unit (ETU) in every Liberian county. And they requested ARC respond and manage one of these units. ARC responded and will be managing the ETU in Fish Town, Liberia, near the border with Cote d'Ivoire.

What ARC does in Liberia:
  • Ebola Treatment Unit Management and Staffing
  Operational Since: Sept., 2003

In the fall of 2003, ARC launched a program to assist those who had been displaced by the Liberian civil war. ARC began providing services to people living in camps at Brown’s Town and Unification Town.

ARC briefly ceased operations in Liberia but is again active in the eastern part of the country working to treat Ebola patients and prevent the spread of the virus. *

At the beginning of 2014, ARC officially transitioned its microfinance institution in Liberia - Liberty Finance - to be fully owned and operated by Liberians.

Current Needs:

Liberia is still struggling with the Ebola Epidemic. Although the outbreak seems to be receding in the country, neighboring countries are still dealing with new outbreaks. It's critical that the international community and Liberians remain vigilant until the epidemic has been brought fully under control.

Some health experts expect to have the epidemic under control by the middle of 2015.
